Supersat Supersedes Set Spend

Tonight’s 20 Seat Guaranteed Main Event Satellite (€110, unlimited re-entry) has already generated enough cash for 38 Main Event seats, and I overheard a couple of players making a bet on the over-under for 50!  It looks like everyone within a ten mile radius of Dublin (or major cities in Norway) wants in to this €1,000,000 gtd. Main Event, and, understandably, want it for less than the €1,150 buy-in. So crowded is the tournament area that the satellite is being hosted in the upstairs secondary tournament room, which will probably be in use all the way through now.

Tank of the Day: Giuliana Oliveira

Giuliana Oliveira started the last hand with 60,000 chips (blinds 250/500) and ended it being unable to make a decision – admittedly a really big, potentially tournament-ending one – and having the floor do it for her in the form of a clock call. Caught from the flop, with preflop action having created a heads up 8,400 pot, her opponent James King led out for 5,500.  Oliveira raised to 18,000, leaving 37,000 behind.  He called, slowly and deliberately. Turn: 6s.  King thought for about thirty seconds before pushing out a stack that covered hers.  While the rest of the tournament...

Conroy Doubles to Short Stack

John Conroy was looking at a Ts 8c Qd 8h 5c board when I arrived, with 12k in the pot; very soon after, he went all in for 5.5k. His opponent Gaetano di Maria made the call, but mucked when Conroy turned over Jc-9c for the straight. “I doubled to a short stack,” Conroy informed me. On 23k now, he is indeed far short of the 42k average, but with blinds/ante still small at 200/400/400, he still has more than enough room to manoeuvre.

Nuts to Chop to Check-Check: How it All Got Worse for Dobelis

I think the story of this hand is out of the bag already with the title, but never mind.  Rihards Dobelis raised to 800 preflop, called by Ciaran Gilmartin and then button Christin Maschmann. Flop: Kd Th 9h.  Dobelis led out 1,800, Gilmartin folded and Maschmann called. Turn: Jh.  Now Dobelis checked to Maschmann, who threw in 4,000.  Dobelis called. River: 5h.  Dobelis checked fast and Maschmann checked even faster.  No hearts were in anyone’s hand; she showed down Qc Ks for a straight which Dobelis had flopped with Jc Qd.

Who Needs Aces? The Chip Leader

Chip leader Ezequiel Waigel now has an even larger stack – 160,000 in Level 5 is quite the pile of chips.  A bit of advertising to back up the pressure he’s clearly put his tablemates (rocking between 25k and 90k) under just now: Chris Howden opened for 600 (blinds 150/300), and Robert Kaggerud called in position.  Folding around to big blind Waigel, he put in a fourbet worth 6,200.  Both opponents folded and he showed As Ad.

One Champion Exits, Another One Enters

Recent eliminations from the Main Event include 2013 champion Ian Simpson, although we suspect we’ll be seeing him again tomorrow for Day 1b. We’re now up to 220 entries for today, including last night’s High Roller finalist Dan Wilson, WSOPE champion Jack Sinclair, and reigning Irish Open champion Ryan Mandara. You can see the live seating and eliminations (although please note that chip counts are not being updated on K Poker) here.
