Newport, Silver heating up table 15

Table 15 is looking like a bit of a pressure cooker, with Max Silver, Nick Newport, and Chris Dowling grinding it out. The last of those three reported on twitter that he has come out of tournament retirement just to play this event. You know, poker players and retirement. Max has two cards in his possession every time we pass by. Recently he made a 5k wager on Ks Kc 4h 3d 2s against one Michael O’Brien, whom had defended their big blind. O’Brien paid the last bet and was shown Kd 9d. The next hand the two tangled again,...

Cacoilo Self-Describes as Not a Complicated Guy

Table 13 has a chatty, friendly vibe to go with the poker competitiveness (this is the Irish Open, most tables do) and early chip leader Julio Cacoilo has been having a chat with Vegard Ropstad in between taking chips off him.  Just now Ropstad opened preflop for what looked like 1,000 (blinds 200/400) and big blind Cacoilo raised him to 4,300.  The size of this bet raised the eyebrow of Ropstad, who folded. “You got pockets?” asked Ropstad. “I don’t want you to call,” replied Cacoilo, answering the eyebrow question rather than the pockets one. “Well, I had pockets just...

Mazilu Flips Out

Short stacked Michael Mazilu found two black queens with which to go to war preflop, called by Mark Taylor, holding Ad Kd.  A king on the turn sealed his fate and Taylor stacked Mazilu’s last chips in with his own, raising his stack to 43,000.

Padraig Parkinson Almost Folds

We pick up the action on the flop Jh 4d 2s. Given the size of his flop continuation bet, 3.2k, it looks like Gareth Smith three-bet Padraig Parkinson’s late position open from the big blind. The turn fell the 9h and Smith slowed down and checked. Parkinson took a hold of the betting lead and fired 6k exactly. Smith was not nearly done with the hand however, and called. The river was the Qs, completing a few unlikely hands. Maybe it was these hands Smith wanted to represent when he splashed out 20k, four intimidating green chips, and about the...

Evangelos Bechrakis Monster Chip Leader

Evangelos Bechrakis has gone on his dinner break (along with half of the enormous Main Event Day 1b) with a stack of 178,000 – a number of chips that could qualify someone for the end of day lead.  To put this in perspective, here’s a short list of other well-stacked players from the LHS of the room: Alexandre Barretto – 108,000 Dermot Blain – 90,000 Julio Cacoilo – 88,000 Paul Rodger – 78,000 Jan Klein – 73,000 Sean Prendiville – 70,000 Tim Verheyen – 70,000

Live Music Tonight from 10pm!

What do you do with hundreds of busted Main Event players who have been solidly drinking for two days (two weeks if they were here for the Norwegians too)? Entertain them, of course! Tonight there’ll be live music in the pre-function bar (the area just outside the Poker Room where you play shuffleboard) from 10pm.  We’ve been told that the flavour of music is “eclectic hits” – who doesn’t love those? Other entertainment for the week includes a Beach Boys Tribute Band, Karaoke Night & Beer Pong Competition! #IrishOpen2019 N.B. We cannot guarantee that the musicians will bear any resemblance...
