Ladies and gentlemen of the internet, that’s a wrap! Day 1a of the €1,150 buy-in, €1 million guaranteed Irish Open Main Event drew a total of 249 entries, with some names appearing on the player list more than once owing to the one-rebuy-per-day format.
Chip leader at the end of play was Thomas Kolnes, about whom we know very little, but strongly suspect that he came here for the Norwegians and stayed on for the craic. He’ll be going into Day 2 on Saturday with 246,100 in chips, head and shoulder above the next man, Sean Cahill. The next man after that, incidentally, is none other than Joe Field, whom you may remember from such classic tournaments as last night’s Hendon Mob Championship, which he won for €11,310. He proceeds to Day 2 with 180,900. We’ll upload full chip counts as soon as we get them. Other players still in contention include Donnacha O’Dea, Mark Buckley and Marc MacDonnell.
There are already 29 players registered for Day 1b. We’re expecting it to be busier than today’s flight, while 1c, as ever, is certain to be a monster. Rejoin us from 2pm on the blog, and check out our IrishPokerOpen Facebook page for photos, and @Irish_OpenPoker on Twitter for bants. Until then – to the bar!
